Tom Nixon and Sharon Catalan have been friends for more than 25 years. Tom began his real estate career in 2004 after a career as an attorney, while Sharon started her Caring Transitions franchise in 2014 after working in high-tech sales.
As their businesses grew, Tom and Sharon regularly referred clients to one another. Tom’s clients often needed help sorting through a lifetime of belongings, managing estate sales, and preparing for a move, while Sharon’s clients often needed an experienced real estate professional to sell their homes.
Over time, they recognized a broader need: seniors moving for health or safety reasons often felt overwhelmed by three fundamental questions—where to go, what to do with their belongings, and how to manage the proceeds from a home sale. That realization led to the creation of Senior Relocation Team.
Our goal is to give individuals and families the information they need to make the decisions that are right for them. Clear information builds confidence. We want our clients to understand their housing options, feel comfortable with their financial choices, and choose a living environment that supports their safety, well-being, and goals.
Together, Tom and Sharon built a team of professionals who specialize in the many aspects of senior transitions. From evaluating senior living options and right-sizing to move management and selling the family home, we provide the knowledge, coordination, and compassionate guidance families need during a challenging time.
Tom’s parents spent many years in their family home. After his father passed away in 2017, his mother wanted to maintain her independence and remain there. Like many seniors, she wasn’t ready to consider moving and preferred to stay where she felt most comfortable.
She later suffered an injury while living alone. Despite rehabilitation, she could no longer live safely on her own and ultimately moved to an assisted living community. The experience changed how we think about aging, planning, and relocation.
When you’re healthy, active, and able to plan for yourself, you have the opportunity to explore your options, visit communities, evaluate different housing choices, and create a plan that reflects your wishes and lifestyle.
After a sudden illness, fall, or injury, those choices may become much more limited. A hospital stay may be followed by rehabilitation, and decisions about where to live next may need to be made quickly during an already stressful time.
